Our History
Honoring Our Beginnings
Fundación Panamá was founded in 1992 by a group of Panamanian women living in Northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. United by a shared commitment to service, they came together to support education, health initiatives, and the social advancement of underserved communities while promoting cross-cultural understanding between the United States, Panama, and Latin America.
Under the leadership of founder Carlota Pardini Ellrodt, the organization was established as a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and funds for programs that improve lives in both Panama and the Washington, D.C. region. What began as small gatherings in members’ homes quickly grew into a vibrant community committed to philanthropy and cultural connection.
Over the years, Fundación Panamá has hosted numerous events—from fashion shows and cultural celebrations to galas and community gatherings—to raise funds and strengthen ties within the Panamanian community. A cherished tradition is honoring Panamanian Mother’s Day each year by donating a gift basket to the first newborn from a family in need at a local D.C. hospital.
Today, Fundación Panamá continues to bring together members across the United States and Panama to support meaningful charitable initiatives, celebrate Panamanian culture, and build a strong community dedicated to helping others.
